With the current shrinking economy, job markets are highly competitive. Now even the under graduates are hunting for jobs to cover up their tuition fee and expenses. Few firms are targeting to hire them as they don't cost them much. However, what matters most of all are skills and experience. If you illustrate them on to your resume and show in an interview then you can be the chosen one.
The top skills that give more weightage to your resume under current prevailing economy are:
- Team Player
- Problem Solving Skills
- Effective Communication Skills
I have explained each one of these in simple terms. Hope this help you to enhance your skills:
Nowadays, this is considered as the most important skill that an employee should possess. Organization need people who can be a part of a team and with their coordination should achieve organization goals. You need to have the ability to work effectively with others. You should build positive relationship with your team members at work place. Generally, group discussion are conducted to see how effectively you co-ordinate with other people. During your induction programme, group activities are performed to teach them how they can do good as a team. Well, you may come across a question in an interview about team work you have done in your past. Make sure you are ready with many examples of how you have demonstrated team work in the past.
Problem Solving Skills:
The ability to solve problems and provide efficient solutions is an excellent skill that one should possess. Analyzing the problem and providing solution is what makes one grow in the company. Problem solvers need to be able to think analytically, strategically and logically. Although it is hard for recruiter to gauge this skill at interview stage, however they may ask you about some problem you have come across and how did well you have persuaded it. So be prepared to have examples of how you have approaches problems and tackled them. Your degree subject may give you an edge over your contemporaries here, especially if you studied IT or the sciences.
Effective Communication Skills:
The most essential and foremost skills that takes you further in the interview stages is the communication skill. Employers need team members who are able to communicate their ideas or tasks precisely and concisely. They want all written work or reports to be structured and of the highest quality. This is a skill that you should have really worked on during your Masters. The fourth semester, the project semester is to enhance all your written and verbal skills. My brother works as an HR personnel and he always complains that today candidates are unable to express themselves clearly, whether verbal or written. As such they have introduced literacy and verbal reasoning test as part of their selection process.
Each one of us has all these skills, but, if these are not taken care of then you tend to lose them easily. With little practice and experience you can get them polished and shine bright in an interview and ever.
Happy job hunting!!!
